Northeast Minnesota Economic Development District

ARDC is the recognized planning organization for the Federally designated Northeast Minnesota Economic Development District (NEMEDD). ARDC receives a planning grant to maintain the Northeast Minnesota Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS), identify EDA eligible projects, and assist communities seeking EDA funding. When conducting economic development activities ARDC uses the acronym NEMEDD.

NEMEDD's service area is ARDC's seven county region of Atikin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis.

Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS)
The CEDS is developed to set NEMEDD's vision for economic development and maintain the region's federal designation as an Economic Development District (EDD). Designation as an EDD allows communities in the region to be eligible for funding opportunities through the Economic Development Administration (EDA), an agency of the United States Department of Commerce.

The CEDS Strategy Committee recommended aoption of the CEDS on June 03, 2010. The EDD Governing Board adopted the CEDS on June 17, 2010.

CEDS Strategy Committee
The Strategy Committee is responsible for development, modification, and implementation of the CEDS. The EDA sets membership requirements for the Strategy Committee. The Strategy Committee must represent the main economic interests of the region and must include private sector representatives as a majority of its membership. In addition, the Strategy Committee should include public officials, community leaders, and representatives of workforce development boards, institutions of higher education, minority and labor groups, and private individuals. View the current membership here: 2010 CEDS Strategy Committee.

The Strategy Committee holds a winter and summer meeting.
