HelmetHero Bicycle Education
|
The HelmetHero bicycle safety program will integrate safety messages and educational opportunities for bicyclists through the development of programs and educational materials including maps and brochures. ARDC staff will educate 3rd graders on safe bicycle techniques and the importance of wearing helmets. This program will be held in 20 elementary schools in Northeast Minnesota. The overall goal is to reduce dangerous bicycling behavior by teaching youth in 12 targeted communities to ride safely and effectively. With the near completion of several regional trails and with the popularity of bicycling among elementary students, it is extremely important to educate children about the importance of safe bicycling and wearing a helmet. Helmets will be distributed to these children at no charge and rewards will be given to children seen using their helmets.
This program was funded by the Northeast Minnesota Area Transportation Partnership.
