Babbitt Comprehensive Plan
| Background
|
| Babbitt, Minnesota is a small city in St. Louis County that is surrounded by an area that is very rural in nature. Natural resources are the basis for the community’s economy; primarily through tourism, forestry, and mining. The City is located near a popular fishing lake and is adjacent to the Superior National Forest. Roadways leading from the community provide access to the Superior National Forest, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, and many private resorts and tourist businesses. Babbitt is now facing a potential new era in its economy. Several major industrial projects are being built or proposed to be built in the Babbitt area and the City could see significant changes in the next few years. The City wishes to complete a Comprehensive Plan prior to these changes in order to ensure the City continues to meet the vision of its residents and businesses into the future.
