Aitkin Access Management Plan
| Background
|
The purpose of the Aitkin Access Management Plan is to identify issues and solutions to Highways 210, 169, and 47 accesses within the City of Aitkin. The Access Management Plan will be facilitated by an Arrowhead Regional Development Commission and a committee that includes officials including the Minnesota Department of Transportation and Aitkin County. Traffic estimates show that traffic will be increasing in the upcoming years, which may cause congestion and other issues. Managing accesses is very important to allow for positive traffic flow and also being sure to have safe intersections. The committee will look at issues that have arisen from accesses along Highways 210, 169, and 47 and identify a range of strategies and recommendations. The City of Aitkin recently finished a Comprehensive Land Use Plan, which identified the need for an Access Management Plan. This project will provide a tool to address issues and will be implemented by incorporating recommendations into the City’s Zoning Ordinance. |
