Hovland Dock Wayside Design Project
About
The North Shore Scenic Drive (NSSD) Council will lead a planning effort to identify improvements that can be made to the Hovland Dock Wayside for visitors traveling the byway, addressing wayside amenities, recreation and accessibility. The project will result in a design plan ready for implementation, which the NSSD Council will support in conjuction with Cook County and the community of Hovland through grant writing and project development as appropriate. Wayside improvements made at this site are expected to enhance tourism on the byway.

To achieve these objectives, the NSSD will work in partnership with the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission (ARDC) to convene stakeholders to be engaged in the planning process. Stakeholders will include area residents, local organizations, Cook County Historical Society, Cook County and others. Carlos Fernandez, Landscape Architect, AFLA will prepare the design documents based on feedback from the stakeholder planning team over the course of several meetings.

ARDC hired AMI consulting engineers to assess the condition of the dock and to create a course of action to preserve it if possible and to stabilize it if neccesary. An inspection report has been drafted up revealing the results of what they found. You can view the inspection report below.
